UCCSA church -Picong
UNITED CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF SOUTHERN AFRICA-UCCSA
This church is one of the first churches in Ba ga Maidi with the first church built in Manthe in 1886.
The church was by then known as the London missionary society LMS and has since established
other buildings of the church in places like Picong under the leadership Mr Phillip Gaerobale
Mocwiri.
It was through the leadership and skills in building that Mr Gaerobale Phillip Mocwiri help the
community by building the church in Picong through the contribution made by the members of the
church. UCCSA as its known today was by then under Manthe and served by Reverent/baruti who
were based in Manthe and Taung.
Phillip G Mocwiri became one of its bagogi/elders who then assisted the by conducting Sunday
church services in Picong during Sundays.
It was this church in Manthe that was also used to accommodate school classes and there were no
fixed schools in the area. The old church was given site by bogosi just east of the then Roman
Catholic church building in Picong. The current church which is still in the same in shape and size was
build a new site after the community was relocated here during the 1972.
